Education


The Chartered Institute of Arbitration enjoys a reputation second to none in respect of training Mediators and Arbitrators.

Entry Level Courses (Arbitration & Mediation)
The Irish Branch offers introductory courses in both Arbitration and Mediation at regular intervals. Associate membership is available following completion of an entry-level course normally run over one day. These courses are open to anyone who is interested in dispute resolution.

Accredited Mediation Training (new course dates)
The Irish Branch offers Accredited Mediation Training and Assessment.  Successful completion of this intensive 5 day training course and 2 days of assessment allows participants apply for Membership of the Institute.

Peer Interview for Fellowship
Once membership level has been achieved, the Irish Branch invites members to apply to attend an afternoon of Peer Interviews for Fellowship
(normally held on a yearly basis). 

An experienced Arbitrator may apply to become a Chartered Arbitrator.  This involves a peer assessment of the arbitrator and in particular his/her ability to issue logical and coherent reasoned awards.

Exemptions:

In Ireland the following courses have secured accreditation/ exemption entitlements from the CIArb.

  • University of Dublin, Trinity College – Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration: This gives exemption from Introductory Course, Module 1 and Module 2 – Join at Member grade.
  • National University of Ireland Galway - Alternative Dispute Resolution Module.   This gives participants exemption from the Introductory Course - Join as Associate Member. 

Conciliation and Adjudication Courses:
These courses are scheduled by the Irish Branch when there are suitable numbers interested in completing them.   See the UK CIArb Course Options for scheduled courses in the UK.

Distance Learning via the UK:
It is also possible to qualify by distance learning as for example in the Postgraduate Diploma in Arbitration offered by the College of Estate Management. The link to this course is available on www.cem.ac.uk .
