Become a Member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

Our qualifications are internationally recognised and valued, providing assured standards which give users confidence. There are three levels of membership:

Associate (ACIArb)

To become an Associate, you will be required successfully to complete one of the following options:

Member (MCIArb)

To become a Member, you will be required successfully to complete one of the following options:

  • CIArb Introduction Module and Modules 1 and 2 in mediation, arbitration, international arbitration or adjudication
  • A relevant course offered by a CIArb Recognised Course Provider
  • Accelerated Route to Membership.

Fellow (FCIArb)

To become a Fellow, you will be required successfully to complete one of the following options plus a Peer Interview:

  • CIArb Introduction Module, Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 in mediation, arbitration, international arbitration or adjudication
  • CIArb Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration and CIArb Module 4
  • A relevant course offered by a CIArb Recognised Course Provider
  • Accelerated Route to Fellowship

Membership provides a much wider appreciation of the systems of dispute resolution and an opportunity to network with professionals engaged in a wide range of disciplines as well as a prestigious secondary professional qualification.

For those with little or no knowledge of dispute resolution it is necessary to complete an entry course for Associate Membership. Practising lawyers and those with law degrees may become members of the Institute by attending and passing the appropriate assessment - details of membership are available. Suitably experienced lawyers may qualify for Fellowship by completing the Special Fellowship Assessment.

Who can become a Member?

The Branch welcomes applications from members of all professions. The Institute provides education and training to help you attain membership to all grades of membership. The courses are taught by experienced arbitrators and academics. Entry is through the Associate grade or straight through to Member grade if an exempted course has been successfully completed.
