Accredicated Mediation Course

This course is designed to rapidly build a very high level of knowledge so candidates are both competent and confident to mediate in a variety of situations. Candidates will gain practical experience of the skills and techniques required to manage a mediation from initial instruction to conclusion.   Candidates will be equipped with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for Assessment, following which, if assessed to be competent, candidates will become CIArb Accredited Mediators.

The course is aimed at candidates who wish to become an Accredited Commercial Mediator, and who want to represent clients in mediation.  It is also beneficial to those who wish to use mediation skills in their current profession.

The course is delivered over 5 days and is one of the most comprehensive mediation training courses available and includes skills practice, role-play, video analysis, coaching, mentoring and support.

On successful completion of this course, candidates will be awarded a certificate of attendance, be eligible to apply for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and progress to the Commercial Mediation Accreditation Assessment (2 Days) to obtain Accredited Mediators status and become a Member of the Institute.

Assessments
The assessment programme follows the Training Course.   It is aimed at candidates who wish to become a CIArb Member and an Accredited Commercial Mediator.  (The Assessment is also available to Mediators who have been accredited by other approved bodies but who wish to have the recognised MCIArb accreditation.)

The assessment programme is delivered over 2 Days and consists of a series of assessed role-play sessions.  The three categories of assessment are:

  1. People Skills
  2. Process Skills
  3. Management of the Mediation.

To pass, candidates must be competent in People Skills in both role plays and in Process Skills and Management Skills at least once in either of their role plays.

The assessment is carried out by a separate and completely independent Panel of Assessors who determine the level of skill and competence achieved on completion.

On successful completion of the assessment programme, candidates will become CIArb Accredited Mediators and be eligible to apply to be a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
